Motivational Monday #7

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Did you have a good weekend? I hope so.

Motivational Monday | Sprinkle of Glitter

I chose these words (from here) today because they really struck a cord with me.

Obviously, if we all had our way we would be squillionaires driving round in pink Ferrari's and flying off in our own jet to our palace made of shells and diamonds. This is a given. As it happens, the chances of these things happening (a palace made of shells??) are pretty slim.

Not having a shell castle though, is no reason to be a misery and I think that if you take as much delight in the little things as you do the huge great ones, you will feel all the better for it.

A great example of this is instagram. Instagram is a free app which encourages you to take little phone snapshots of anything you like and share them with the instacommunity. I find that I take pictures of things I would never normally deem worthy enough the attention of my canon but yet really love them. Things like a snail slithering up a wall or the mess Darcy makes with her toys or the shoes I wore that day all become merry little focuses of my attention and I find myself noticing more and more all the good things around me.

When you love all the little things, they really truly add up and you will find your spirits so lifted from doing so.

What small things will you do with great love today?

Motivational Monday #6

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Firstly, oh hello 700th post on this blog. 700!! Go me!

Secondly, here we are on another merry Monday with another dose of motivation. Are you enjoying these posts? They are fast becoming my favourite to write.

Motivational Monday | Sprinkle of Glitter

I chose this quote today (again, from Pinterest) because I thought it was pretty apt for my 700th post and is something I agree whole heartedly.

When you think of success, what do you think of? Do you think of happiness, wealth, certain goals? How do you plan on getting to them? The majority of the time, the answer is going to lie in the field of 'hard work'.

The person I consider to be most successful in my life is my Dad. He was raised in a modest family with normal things. He went to a normal school and worked very hard. He trained as an accountant and decided that it wasn't for him, worked in sales and then decided to take the plunge and set up his own business. Twenty to thirty years on, he has been tres successful and as well as having the world's greatest Daughter (mwahaha) he also has all the lovely things he has worked for. There are times when I look at his lovely house or fabulous holidays with a tinge of envy and think, 'Why can't I have those things?'. And this answer is, "I can". The bit in between those two things though is called hard work.

My Dad didn't just wake up with a lovely home or fall into lovely experiences, he poured his time, his energies and his thoughts into his work. He didn't sit about watching TV wondering when success would come knocking, he physically made it happen. He didn't take an elevator, he sweated his way up the stairs and now he's up the top and can be proud of himself.

I feel a little bit like that for this blog. No, it isn't World Number One Blog of The Year, but to me, it's a success. It's what I want it to be. To make it what I want it to be, I've worked really bloomin' hard. I have spent hundred of hours on it, I think about it daily, I research ways to improve it and above all, I pour love and energy into it gladly. I don't resent the work, I relish in it because I know how amazing it feels to achieve the little goals you set yourself.

If you have something you want to do, do it. Enjoy knowing that you can and will achieve your goals if you work for them and enjoy the journey to getting there. When you look at it in the right way, it's immensely satisfying. There is nothing you cannot do if you work hard enough for it.

If there is something you want to achieve this week, start today and take the first step of your stairs.

Motivational Monday #5

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Whilst 'Motivational Monday' was only ever meant to be a short term February Feature, I quite enjoy writing it, so decided to carry it on a little longer. Wonder if we'll make it to #10!?

Motivational Monday | Sprinkle of Glitter

Last week was hard. Very hard. After weeks of of deliberating what was best, with the support of family and friends and the advice of vets, we put our much loved cat Mindy to sleep. She was very old and living with a great many health problems and everybody told me it was the kindest thing to do for her. It didn't feel kind though. It felt hateful and cruel and wrong.

I didn't like having power over someone's life like that. I felt like I was playing God and making decisions that were not mine to make. But, when it came to the choice of giving her a dignified peaceful end or letting her live out her last days in pain and misery, I knew which option was right.

Often times I think that people with the labels, 'Kind' and 'Gentle' are thought of as 'meek' and 'mild'. This is not the case. It is often the right behaviour to be kind but not always the easy behaviour. It can take a lot of strength to be kind and gentle when you may well be feeling quite the opposite.

Next time you feel yourself seeing red over something small or you feel like going gaga at the woman who nabbed your parking space when you were clearly indicating for it, take a moment and breath. Choose kind. It may not be easy and it will take guts, but ultimately, it is the right path to take and in the long run, you won't regret it.

Do you think you will choose to be a little more gentle or a little kinder today? How will you make those changes?

Motivational Monday #4

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

In life, it seems normal to spend vast amounts of time mapping out our lives and deciding on the paths we must take. I am a regular mapper myself. Do your exams, graduate, find a nice man, buy a house, get married, have a baby, check, check, check and check. Then what?

Motivational Monday | Sprinkle of Glitter blog

Sometimes we make plans for ourselves and they work like clockwork. Sometimes they fall to absolute pieces and we are beside ourselves with grief, sadness, frustration or loss. In times like this, the world can feel like it's caving in on itself and you have no options, or that the options you do have are pretty diar.

As someone who has been in situations where you feel there is no way out or where you feel you have lost your way and can't see the wood for the trees, I know how frightening and distressing that can feel. From experience, I also know that is is not necessary to feel this way. There are always other options, there are always other paths.

'Other path' absolutely does not mean 'wrong path'. It's all too easy to feel that if you change your path you are failing or making a mistake, but in actual fact you are just changing your direction but carrying on your journey, with all it's winds and twists, and that's alright.

It's OK to worry and over think which direction you should take in your life, as long as you do keep walking down your path. The only mistake would be stopping.

I hope this strikes a positive note with anyone who is feeling a bit lost or are searching for their 'Plan B'. If not, below are the rest of February's Motivational Monday's to put a bit of pep in your step.

Motivational Monday #3

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

What a week it was last week! I shall have to do a post on it full of pictures to share it all. Until then, let's lift our Monday morning spirits and look ahead to the next 7 days with positivity and excitement.

This is a lesson I have learnt and continue to learn the hard way. You know those mistakes that you make over and over again? Well this is mine. I find it very hard to let go of friendships and always try to save them or see the best in the other person, even if they are basically, idiots to me.

In the times when I have stopped chasing love, affection and attention, I have felt so much calmer and respected myself a whole lot more. The moment you stop chasing things from people who are never going to give it, you are much more aware of the people in your life who are standing round you with everything you want, offering to give it to you in bountiful amounts. The moment you stop wasting your time on people who don't care about you, you can give so much more to those who do. You may even find that the moment you stop throwing away your energy on people who never cared, they notice the love and fun and kindness you are giving your real friends and have a change of heart.

I am so lucky with the people and support networks I have in my life and I think it's really important that I don't ever loose sight of those in minutes when I feel unloved or lonely. It's only a state of mine, not a reality.

So, the message today is, identify your good and great relationships and nurture them. Identify your non-starter relationships, smile peacefully and stop worrying about them.

What do you think? Have you experienced anything like this before?

Motivational Monday #2

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Another Monday, another spoonful of happy from Sprinkle of Glitter.

Contrary to most of the population, I've actually always quite liked Mondays. I feel the same about them as I do the first of January. It's the chance to start a fresh and then chance to feel like you are facing life with the best of intentions. Monday is a good spirited day.

She Left Beauty Wherever She Went || Motivational Monday

I chose these words from Pinterest today because I think they are something we can all strive to achieve but unlike dieting, we can enjoy the journey as much as the results.

Leaving beauty doesn't mean leaving an invisible trail of your coco channel in the air as you gracefully waltz by your sexy office colleague (why does every office seem to have one token hot man???), but more leaving behind an attitude.

Since this is a beauty blog, there is an understandable tendency to lean very much towards physical, surface beauty and the tools we use to create this. However, attitudes can be beautiful too. You know someone has left beauty behind when after talking to them you feel lifted or calmer or happier or motivated. Their beautiful attitude has rubbed off on you and left you all the better for it. Beautiful, positive, kind, patient, caring, cheerful attitudes are contagious.

Wouldn't it be amazing this week if we all gave a little bit more focus to the behaviours we display and the attitudes we leave behind?

Whether you are at school, work or home, let's leave our beauty where ever we go.

Motivational Monday #1

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

It's Monday, you're at your office desk/reading your phone on the commute/feeding the baby/not listening in class because Sprinkle of Glitter is so thrilling (haha) and the weekend seems like a long way off.

I know the feeling. I used to go into my old office with a very heavy heart- world's biggest YAY for working from home!

To help you combat this, we're going to be a happy glitter family and stay motivated. We're going to embrace the week and all it will offer to us. It's going to be a good one, I can feel it in my waters....wherever they may be.

So, as you can see, I turned to the most motivational place on earth the internet, Pinterest.

This little slogan really struck a cord with me. There are so many huge things I want to do but often feel put off or overwhelmed by. This week, I'm going to take one of them and start at the very beginning...'it's a very good place to start'. I won't go into what it is because it's pretty personal, but I'm glad to be starting and making a dent in my journey.

The reason I'm writing this is because there might be someone else out there who has something they want to start but have previously been daunted by such a large task. If that's you, come and hold my hand and we'll do it together, as a community.

Feel free to share your big things below, whether it's exactly what you want to do and how you're going to do it, or just that you're in it with me, I'd love to hear.

Are you about to start something big?
